Joe is a Member at CrossFit St. Louis West (ICE). Joe has come on strong since joining and clearly enjoys his work with us. We asked Joe a few questions about CrossFit and himself. Here’s what he had to say.
CF STL West: Tell us a little about yourself Joe.
Joe: I have always been active. In high school, I was on the swim team and played water polo, as well. During my college years, I was a gym rat and continued to go to the gym after I graduated. I married my wife, Michelle, in 2008, and we have two boys, Haden (3) and Benjamin (2). I am a huge Cardinals fan so I try to go to as many games as possible, but with two kids that’s not an easy task. Besides that, I like to spend time with my family.
CF STL West: How long have you been CrossFitting?
Joe: It’s been just over a year now. I started with on-ramp at ICE in February, 2013.
CF STL West: What first caught your interest with Cross Fit?
Joe: I did P90x at home for a while, and the gym was just boring to me. I heard about CrossFit and wanted to at least give it a try. I thought I was in decent shape until my first on ramp class. This sport is very humbling.
CF STL West: How do you like it at St. Louis West?
Joe: I have really enjoyed my time at St. Louis West. It’s a great location for me, and the members and coaches are great. I have never felt out of place, even when I struggled in the beginning. My coaches always took the time to help me learn the movements. That’s very important; the last thing I want to do is hurt myself.
CF STL West: What kind of goals did you have or expectations when you started, and how have they changed now?
Joe: When I started CrossFit, my only goal was to become more active again. I found it very difficult to find time for the gym, but with CrossFit, once I made the move and started, I have not stopped. I don’t think I will be competing in the Cross fit games anytime soon, but I do enjoy the competition aspect of CrossFit. I am always trying to lift more and become faster.
Joe is a frequent 11:45 attender at West. You St. Louis people! Tired of the heat? West is like being in a cave. A constant 62.5 degrees. (Well almost). Come out and drop in on a class in the country!
