The Kettlebell Swing
Want to express power?
This movement exemplifies the “core to extremity” premise by utilizing a hinge position and allowing the bell to travel through space with the energy our hips have created.
Unfortunately, one of the most common flaws we see with a kettlebell swing is athlete setting up or cycling in a squatting cycle.
The kettlebell swing also allows for a lot of customization options as far as range of motion and requires less skill than oly lifts.
Here’s some intentional reasoning as to how you might use the KBS:
– Swap to Russian swings to avoid going overhead.
– Replace a high skill movement in a workout, such as a hang power clean, when fitness is the goal and not specific skill development.
– Use as a substitute when you need to hinge but do not feel comfortable pulling from the floor.
